Stabilization
From IAP-Wiki
Woods and other materials are often stabilized to strengthen them. The stabilizing material is often colored to add interest to the final product.
Briefly, stabilization is accomplished by using pressure (atmospheric or greater) to force a stabilizing material into the material of the turning blank.
Another method of stabilization is to soak the turning blank with thin CA glue while it is on the workbench or while mounted on the lathe.
