Hawthorne

General Information
Hawthornes are a common tree in the eastern United States. There are a number of varieties, all of which have in common a spur or thorn that can grow from any part of the tree, including the trunk. The name of the tree is a combination of its characteristics - the thorn as described and the haw, which is the fruit. The haw can range in size and appearance from a fruit that is similar in appearance to its relative, the apple, or a smaller berry that reddens and looks much like a maraschino cherry.
The wood is much like a fruit tree.
