Cherry
From IAP-Wiki
General Information
The term 'cherry' can refer to a variety of trees. These trees all bear a fruit called 'cherry' but can be quite different in appearance and growth patterns. Cherries are related to the plum, peach and almond.
Cherries are roughly divided into 'edible cherries' and 'bird cherries'. The edible cherries can be sweet cherries or tart cherries.
The bird cherries are likely what the woodturner is more likely to run across as found wood, and include:
* Black cherry * Chokecherry
All cherry wood has a reddish heart wood. It has a characteristic sweet odor when worked. Cherry wood can contain spalt or burls.
