Category:Spalted Wood
From IAP-Wiki
Spalting is the growth of fungus in wood during the decomposition process that occurs after wood dies. The fungus grows in patterns that follow and resemble the grain pattern of the original wood grain. There are several methods of speeding up the spalting process.
Extreme care should be used when working with spalted wood. Fungi are extremely difficult to kill and can cause infections and even death. Many spalted woods are stabilized with chemicals that harden the wood and kill the fungi present.
