Butternut

General Information

Butternut is related to the (black) walnut, and is sometimes called 'White Walnut'.

The wood is lighter in color than black walnut, and is substantially softer. In fact, butternut is marginal as a pen blank because of its softness.

Turning Butternut

When working butternut, the wood gives off an odor similar to that of walnut.
