I'd say that any lacquer thinner would work. The cheap stuff at the home center is not as highly refined as what you get at an auto paint finish store, the cheap stuff usually has more water in it. The term lacquer used to be short for nitrocelluose (sp?)lacquer. Now we have acrylic modified lacquer, brushing lacquer, precatalyzed lacquer, etc...... You can also get different "speeds" of lacquer thinner. They play with the mix of "nasties" to get slower drying for high humidity conditions, or fast drying for good conditions.
