I've been wanting one of these drill press vices for awhile. I seen this small one at Harbor Freight, looked to be decent quality so I bought it and I believe it's all I will need. Since my drill press is set up for woodworking, I just mounted it on some plywood that I can mount via the t track, already there. It will only ever have to slide forward and back, with the center of the vice under the bit, this should work great. I should say, this was not wanted for pen blanks, but it sure will be handy for other drilling tasks. Easy to take off and put on.

I use a similar rise with my drill press, matted with a skinny short square it works great to drill out pen blanks and any other drilling tasks I need a little more support for. I can clamp mine down to the press table but most of the time I just hold the vise in place while drilling.
