This guy had six (6) nails in its blank, one survived on the inside. You can see the dark splotches in areas where the nail had been.

They are in a tree that was 60 years old, and this piece came from when it was 20-25 years old. They seem to not bother the tool to much since this is completely dry blank, I did have to resharpen it a few extra times. But it's not like it gouged the tool all up.That's a real beauty.
I imagine those nails are tough on the turning tools.
Yes.... they were inside the blank. There were a lot of nails in the tree when we cut it up originally. I did my best to avoid the nail when cutting up the blanks.That looks great, but sounds dangerous. Did you find the nails by accident? That would make a mess of a chisel in a hurry.
