I had the bright idea of casting some 3D printer filament samples, twisted into coils, in resin. There was really no way to control where the filament wound up on the blank. Some sections made stripes, while others show as just dots. While I like the effect of the randomness, I don't think this is an idea that I'll repeat.

Can do some neat things with 3d printing. I did these a couple weeks back. In the process of modifying the STL file for pens with a 360 degree honeycomb.

I've been using the printer for a while to make inlay sorts of blanks. I've been having trouble the past several prints with retraction wearing the Filament in half, so I haven't printed any of my more intricate ones successfully yet.

Little late but I did something similar with words, had someone who wanted the name of their racing team in a gearshift pen. How did the filled in West Virginia one work out?

What type of filament are you using? I've looked for info on what will machine well, but the info isn't easy to turn up.
