Description 2016 BASH - Hunter's Paradise Contest - First Place Winner
Date Added to Collection 3/18/2016
Maker Kenny Durrant
Materials Whitetail Deer Antler, 1975-1976 Federal Duck Stamp
Components Over & Under Gunmetal Kit from PSI
Tools / Machinery Used Jet mini lathe, Pressure pot and air compressor
Process Drill and glue the tube in the antler. I like Gorilla Glue because if the antler is porous the glue will expand to fill the voids from the inside. When the antler is turned the thin porous parts tend to crumble. With the Gorilla Glue it seems to stabilize the horn to help keep it together. Then turn to size and seal with CA to smooth out the porous antler. Sand and polish. Paint the cap tube and seal it then glue the stamp on and seal the whole tube again. Cast with resin, turn and polish.
Maker's Comments I like the rifle cartridge pen with the shot shell cap. I wanted a hunting theme so I thought the antler on the pen and the stamp on the cap would be a nice fit.
