After watching the Steals & Deals and Trades & Giveaways forums for a couple weeks, and considering some input from members in threads and by PM, and after discussion with the management team, a change is coming.

The Steals & Deals forum and the Trades & Giveaways forum are merging. In a few days T&G will disappear and the new forum will be named Steals, Deals, and Wanted.

The reason for this is simple; we wanted to collect all the member-helping-member sort of posts into one place and provide a dedicated place for "Wanted" posts. Also, traffic in the two forums seemed pretty low, and we did not have a dedicated spot for "Wanted" posts.

The rules in the new Steals, Deals, and Wanted Forum are greatly simplified. You complained about too many rules; well we got rid of lots and instead we'll depend on the good sense and mutual respect of members to keep order in that forum.

Existing posts from the other two forums will be merged into the new forum when it opens.

Below are the rules for the new forum.

Please feel free to comment, but please stay focused on this particular forum.

Using the IAP Steals, Deals, & Wanted Forum
The Steals, Deals, & Wanted Forum has several purposes.
  • For-Sale: You're selling stuff for cash
  • Trade: You prefer a trade, but you might consider cash
  • Giveaway: You're giving stuff away for no more than the cost of shipping
  • Wanted: Posts like "does anyone have..." or "where can I buy..."
The General Rules for All Selling apply in this forum.

There is no cost to place an ad (or wanted post) in the Steals, Deals, & Wanted Forum

Qualified Items: The Steals, Deals, & Wanted Forum is intended for selling, trading, and giving away single, and small lots of, personally owned items. This might be a few extra kits you don't need, a used lathe or tool, some extra blanks, or similar items related to pen making or general workshop activities.

Listing similar items on a regular basis is not allowed. If you want to sell the same sort of items on a regular basis, use one of the Classifieds forums. If you already sell in the classifieds, or in a store referenced in your signature, you can't sell, trade, or give away similar items in this forum. Exceptions may be made for charitable purposes with pre-approval from [profile]jeff[/profile].

All new threads in The Steals, Deals, & Wanted Forum are moderated. This means that they must be approved by a moderator before they will show up in the forum. This gives the moderators a chance to ensure that the items(s) you are selling are appropriate for this forum. It may be several hours after you create a new ad thread before it shows up in the forum.

There are very few rules in this forum.
We depend on your courtesy, common sense, and respect for others to keep the forum uncluttered and running smoothly. Limit your conversation to things directly related to the item. No bumping, no "PM sent".

Rules:

  • Ads can run until the item sells, or for a maximum of two weeks.
  • Wanted posts will be closed once it's obvious the question has been answered.
  • You may have only one ad running at a time in this forum.
  • Up to five photos may be included in your ad.
Please select a thread tag when you create the thread; For-Sale, Trade, Giveaway, or Wanted.

name - Steals, Deals, Gifts and Wants

just seems to better point out "giveaways" part equally with rest

That's exactly what I thought would be good. It's too long - screws up the formatting in the navbar forum chooser.

Maybe Deals, Gifts, and Wants

Hey Jeff, in the old rules it stated you could only post 5 groups of 5 items. Is that still the case or could someone post 25 extra blanks to get rid of and the buyer could select the ones he wanted, via PM or post, then the seller could update the add stating what remains?

The 5/5 rule has been removed. It was there to force people to be courteous and not post scads of blanks and generate bunches of claiming posts.

I really dislike legislating common sense, courtesy and respect so I decided to let the users of that forum figure it out. If it gets out of hand, however, I will impose my own preferences.

So yes, someone could post 25 blanks and they can be claimed individually by post or PM.

Chris - This is the idea of this merged forum. Reduce the overall rules and make it so that "the average joe" here can post ads without cost. If you post 25 blanks, it shouldn't be a problem. 200 blanks and you'll probably be told to take it to classifieds... or after a couple of 25 blank ads, you'll be told you need to move to paid classifieds.

This has been the overall idea of the steals and deals from the beginning.. hopefully with the simplified rules it will help that be understood better. Know that the ads are moderated - so the only negative thing is that you COULD be told no for the ad, but as long as you're not abusing it, you should be good to go.

If you stated that the maximum amount of items for sale in this venue can be 25 per ad, Unless prior permission is recieved before posting for special circumstances. That would both limit the amount of items they can stuff in an add and not limit individual sales of items from diferent groups.

i wouldnt complain over a flat $ limit, simple, less questions, bulk sales / expensive stuff would obviously pass the limit, can leave plenty of room for common sense when you think up a limit, or $/month etc - now the crap flies at me

Man... Jeff lowers the number of rules to make it easier and a few of you are recommending more rules? I hope your fireproof suits are up to code :biggrin:

OK!

"Deals Trades Gifts & Wanted" is open for business in the Marketplace. I violated my own grammar standards and left out the commas. I hope they don't repossess my degree in English.

I moved all the posts from the old T&G forum into the new DTG&W forum (formerly Steals & Deals) and added thread tags.

I like the way it looks and I think it will work well. Have fun and let me know if you see further opportunities for improvement.

There are thread redirects in the now-closed T&G. That entire forum will vaporize in the next couple days.

THANKS for all your input. I think we made a great improvement.
