So Constant sent me some dyed wood blanks to test with.

First, let me say I usually turn plastic compared to wood, just because it's less hassle. But not this time.

This dyed blank turned extremely smooth.
After turning to bushing size using a bowl gouge, I honestly could have skipped sanding it at all, but did it anyway out of habit.

This picture is with absolutely no sanding at all.

So the color is consistent all the way through the wood.
Wood was solid all the way through as well.
I did get a slight odor when I was milling up the edges, but nothing overwhelming. If I would have had my DC on I wouldnt have even noticed it. Heck, it could have even been the gunk stuck in my mill blade for all I know.
Blank was oversized, so I felt guilty putting it on a cigar kit. But had limited options.

Below is finished product. I did use a CA finish, which isn't perfect because it was my first attempt with CA. I just didnt want to throw a friction polish on it for review purposes. The CA went on easily. Did roughly 10 coats, sanding with wet MM to 12000. Then hit it with a buff and polish.

This blank was great. Easily the best wood blank I have ever turned on the lathe. It may make me try it more often rather than plastics all the time.

I highly recommend his dyed blanks products to anyone.

Thank You,
Chris
