I hope this is the right place to put this question if not where? I have a PSI Turncrafter Commander (12"). I checked the runout in the Mt right where I put the mandrel in and got .001 runout. When I put the mandrel in if I get it in exactly the right spot it show's just a hair over .001 runout but if I am a half a turn out it will be about .006. I wonder is there a way to correct this. Can I take the spindle out and take it to a machine shop and have them tune it up or do I have to get a new spindle or is there a way to do it without taking it out? Thanks for any help you can give Earl

Earl -- you are expecting a lot of precision from a lower cost wood lathe - The wood lathe is registered to the inside of the ways and the tailstock has more lateral movement than your desired precision of the head stock.

.005 is not too bad for a wood lathe -- and if you mark your alignment you can get to .001

0.005 runout or a bit more is normal for low cost drill chucks --

There are higher precision lathes than the Turncrafter -- they are usually used with metal
