I just recently picked up a beautiful piece of Manzanite Burl:biggrin: that I want to turn into a natural edged, display plate. I've never turned Manzanite before and I don't want to ruin it:confused:. Does anyone know of anything I should watch for or any precautions I need to take when working with Manzanite?

assuming you mean Manzanita Root Burl.......

watch out for rocks while you turn. It's a root ball and will grow around rocks and other things in the soil. You'll most likely run into some voids also, so expect this to be an art bowl.

My Manzanite Burl has not had a rock, yet but when the sparks came out of it ... the 8d nail was a great find . It did dull that blade quickly, but one I got it out the rest went fine.
