Hello all. I've been a woodworker for 40 or so years but just started turning pens a year or so ago. I was raised building stuff and my father (in his 80s) is still a very good cabinet maker and spends hours in the shop. I bought a lathe at a garage sale a couple years ago as an addition to my shop but didn't use it much until my son gave me all the stuff I needed to turn pens for Christmas last year. Now I'm a pen junkie. Driving my wife nuts. She calls herself the woodshop widow. I have pens in 4 galeries in Colorado and have done 3 shows so far. Have shows scheduled the next 2 weekends. Anyhow, glad to be a part of "the gang".

When you start looking for bigger boxes for your pen blanks, you might have "issues"
When you start daily looking at all of the group buy's you might have "issues"
When you start having a dozen or so folks in your contact list for pen kits / pen blanks you might have "issues'

When you start checking this link out http://denver.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=lathe to buy your 4th lathe you might have "issues"

What issue would you have? I am not sure....but it has been something I was told once.

Welcome to the group - I know that the Denver area has a few good wood turning groups.

Yup, Jerry, I'd say your hooked. Welcome.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

Welcome Jerry, from Japan.

I am a little late in getting this in. Christmas preparation, travel and some health issues slowed down a bit. I too have been doing woodwork (not as my vocation) for a little over 40 years myself. I still do it on occasion over here and enjoy it.

Pen turning is fun and certainly different than flatwork. Enjoy making pens. If you have questions, just ask. Like woodworking, we will figure it out somehow!
