Actually, a wannabe turner, I'm brand new and learning as I go
. I've been interested for a long time, but only recently got access to a shop where I can use a lathe on a regular basis. I've been playing around with some purpleheart and bloodwood, learning the pitfalls of dull tools (though I still can't properly sharpen them, but freehand on the belt sander beats dull!). I'm hoping to finish 4 pens by christmas (see my post in the penturning forum for more info on that), it'll be my crash course intro to penturning!
I discovered this forum years ago, but haven't been back in a long time since I haven't actually started turning until a month or two back.
