Hi all, I'm a fairly new turner, I've been turning for a couple months. Mainly bottle stoppers, tops, and ring holders. I think I am now ready to venture into the world of pens. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

JJ

Welcome aboard! Lots of info to be found and lots of advice to be had. My first piece would be to browse some of the forums and practice using the search functions, makes things a lot easier!

Erie is about 30 minutes from Davenport Iowa, between the Quad Cities and Sterling Illinois along I-88. We are a small town of about 1600. So not much to do but make wood chips, of course after my wifes "lists" get done

We were once invited to a craft show in Davenport. Found out it was outdoors and ran until nine or ten pm for several days. Sounds interesting, but not like a venue in which I would want to exhibit!!

Welcome JJ. Glad to have you here. Looking forward to see some of your work.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
