Hi my name is Kerry I started making pens in November for Christmas presents and have started to sell some also.
I make most of my pens from wood that I have milled with my chainsaw along with woods inherited from my Dad,Stepdad,FIL and wifes Grandfathers shops when they died. The pens with the most meaning so far came from the remains of my 50 year old sisters crib that was made of cherry in my dads shop.I gave one to her and my mother for Christmas this last year.
I also sell firewood which allows my to find a lot of unusual local wood.
So far I have made pens out of Walnut,Cherry,Cedar,Spalted Maple,Kentucky Coffee Bean Tree,Ash,White Oak,Black Locust,Honey Locust,Perssimon,Red Elm,Osage Orange and Hackberry. These were all trees that I had cut for firewood or just for lumber.
I came here to try to learn more about pen turning and have learned a lot so far.
