I have made only a few pens. I turn my pens on a metal turning lathe which gives me the abilty to adjust thr cut and the lathe will feed across at that diameter which gives me very accurate control of the exact size. Iam a retired engineer and woul like to see some more technical info posted. I need all the help I can get.

Hi Bill,

We're glad you're here. Make sure you check the library - under the forums heading. There's tons of great advice there.

Everybody's really helpful around here. I think you'll like it.

Welcome Bill. Don't be afraid to post some picts of your work.

I am including a link to a PDF file that goes over many aspects of pen turning from finish - to pens - to tools - to methods etc. It is not in detail but a good overview for pen turning.

http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

Also included below is a link to a new post that gives some information that people wished they had known earlier in pen turning. Some good information by those that make pens.

Since you are an engineer and you have a metal lathe and know how to use it, much of the above information will be needed, but just in case some of it does, I am including all of it. If some of it can be improved and you have experiences that can help us in our pen turning - please post it. We welcome new ideas! (Well, most of the time  )
