Hi I just joined and am new to wood turning. I have also joined a turning club (Flatland Woodturners, Champaign. IL - www.flwt.webs.com) and the club is helping me to get started. I look forward to gaining knowledge from this site.

Welcome from Indiana. You just missed the Midwest Penturners Gathering in Champaign last weekend. It was a good time and a lot of good info. Did the club explain to you that turning is an addiction?

Hi John. Welcome from southern California.
Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

Hi John.

A big welcome from over here in Britain! I can't wait to see some pics of your first pens. You've done right joining a club and a superb forum like this one. You are definitely on the right track.

Best regards
