Hello from a re-tread. I started making Pens about 14 years ago and moved on to a Wood Turners group that was highly technical and very good. Got burnt out and left the hobby for a while. last week I went out and cranked up the old lathe and found the drive belt had rotted so after ordering parts and sharpening tools here I am again. I have worked with many different varieties of wood but never the newer synthetics. Will probably go slow and see what develops. Also will stay away from the Pro's, this is supposed to be a fun hobby.

Welcome back and welcome from Southern California. I took a break fro wood turning for a few years as well. I was surprised at how much I remembered. I'm finding pen turning interesting, especially exploring the variety of materials, methods and types of pens. Plus they take a lot less time and take up a lot less space than bowls...
