Default My First Pen

View in gallery

I’m starting a new hobby for retirement so this is my first attempt. Using an Executive pen kit, I used a red oak blank with Jacobean stain and completed it with CA finish

Hi Walt, welcome to IAP and I hope you are enjoying your retirement.
Nice first pen. Good shape to it. You just need to press the nib end in a bit more

Thanks for noticing that. I don’t have a pen press yet so I used a clamp to press the pen. That was a simple fix. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum. Nice pen and great finish. Many regard red oak as firewood.

I started with red oak to be on the safe side. If I messed up it wouldn’t be a big loss. I thought that using the stain would bring out the grain in the wood. I bought a $7 board and turned it into 30 blanks.
