hello Jake welcome to the site. Hope you stick around and jump in now and then. Love seeing people's work. A lot of valuable info scattered throughout the site.

Have a question for you. What is it that we are looking at in your avatar??? Looks interesting.

That is pretty cool with all the different elements in it. Could make for some interesting pen designs in there. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Hi Skiprat thanks very much - I must say your work is fantastic to ! I think we have similar approaches in design. I am in Powys - a pint sometime would be great.

Jake I'm currently in Bodelwydan Hosp but I live a few miles up the coast at Connahs Quay. One of my colleagues lives in Brecon. Nice part of Wales.....but then , most of Wales is pretty nice.......except poor old Port Talbot I guess.

Thinking about taking the plunge

I have just found pen turning, I am very intrigued.

I have nothing as far as tools and trying to make up my mind on how to get started.

I think I would enjoy the craftsmanship and could maybe make a little money.

If nothing else I would have some great gifts.

So some questions are buy a kit or buy things individually?

10" or 12" lathe?

Hi I use a metal lathe are you thinking about a wood lathe ? there are lots of guides about the equipment needed to start on this site have a look in the library hope this helps - Jake here is a good link http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf
