Hi Everyone I'm from Mosgiel in New Zealand and have been interested in wood turning since being introduced to it in the 1960s by our woodwork teacher at a small school in Owaka.
I retired three years ago and saw a turned pen in one of our many tourist shops . I thought I could make a better one and have been hooked ever since.
I now only use stabilised woods which I do myself and just love spalted woods. Every time I cut into an old log its a bit like Forest Gumps quote about the box of Chocolates. "you dont know what your going to get" but some times the colours and patterns are truely spectacular.
Apart from wood turning I spend my time fishing, hunting and work part time as a tour guide on Stewart Island. I also enjoy cooking.
