Hi, My name is Keith. I live in Harrisburg, Pa.
I first turned in high school, more than 45 years ago. Although I very much enjoyed it, circumstances prevented developing my interest until recently. I have a Shopsmith lathe and a Jet mini-lathe, both of which have seen a good bit of use in the past year or so.

I am certainly an amateur, having turned only about a dozen pens, about 10 bottle stoppers, and 20 or so miscellaneous items. Most of what I do is by trial and error. As a self-taught turner, I find myself watching turning projects on Youtube, and surfing the web for tips and techniques.

I am thrilled to have found IAP, and look forward to learning from the experience of the members. I am totally impressed with the quality of the work I have seen posted here.

Welcome to the IAP Keith!

I took pretty much the same path as you...hours of youtube videos to figure this pen turning thing out. I've been turning for a little over a year now and can honestly say that if you're looking for help or inspiration this forum is the place! There are so many gifted turners here that it will be difficult for you not to find inspiration and ideas.

Again, welcome! Happy New Year

Welcome to IAP.
I spent a night in Harrisburg in Feb 2008 after my flight from Pittsburgh to Newark was cancelled due to a snow storm. I stupidly decided that I could drive through the storm to Newark and still get my international flight back home. Wrong !!!

Welcome Keith, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Welcome Keith, I am from Mechanicsburg and I have been turning pens a little over a year. This site is a wealth of information and everyone is very willing to share info and readily help you with any problems. Also a great resource for buying pen related items.
