What is it? Lacquer? Is it durable? How does it compare with Mylands, etc.? Thanks in advance.

I think all the heat setting finishes are about the same. BLO and shellac (sometimes lacquer). I used to use Mylands, but a local guy mixes his own and sells it. It works quite well.

Thanks. I'm just getting started. Couldn't find anything about it, whether it was lacqeur or shellac. It didn't separate in the bottle like Mylands and Hut.
Thanks again.

I did notice, to me anyway, that the like Mylands a Hut Crystal Clear
did not last as long nor have as brilliant a gloss as Behlen's. It
was also recommended to me by pen turner and author Barry Gross.

I have also been told by some suppliers that also turn pens that
the shelawax and the hut are junk. Sure they look real good going
on and for the first couple days even, but you tell me?, does the
shine wear off after a couple days if handles even slightly for
anyone here? [:0]

I agree, Don, it does seem to last longer, and more gloss. But I haven't used it that much. According to this, http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES.exe?PARTNUM=850-567&search=Behlen, it's a padding lacquer. I did notice that it didn't separate in the bottle like the shellacs did, and that it was clear. And since there is a drying time, I thought it must be lacquer.
BTW, I just found that link, otherwise I wouldn't have asked if it was lacquer. <g>

Have been using it for years and the pens look just as good now as they did then.
