Hi my name is Rusty Elam, I like the post below am from Mesquite Texas. And like Kingpenz I have been making custom furniture for a long time but just recently have got into turning pens and am loving it. I have done 3 shows so far and am having good luck selling so far. We (my wife of 30 years and I) are having fun doing the shows and 2 of the 3 have been very good. The funny thing is that the 1st show we did was one that I believe Kingpenz was at also but they forgot to tell all of us that they had booked 4 penturners at a pretty small "juried" show....not good for any of us.
Anyway I have been lurking here trying to learn more and am working on getting a website up (not a computer guy) so I thought I should introduce myself.
Great site

Welcome Rusty. Glad you enjoy pen turning. I can't wait to get back to the States and start meeting some turners in person. I have a daughter in Greenville and I get back there once a year.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
