Lidded box #2

Red Gum Burl (from Nolan), 3-1/2" diameter, 2" tall, finished with beeswax.

Hint, DON'T rub on beeswax when you have voids in the wood. It took me DAYS to pick all that wax out of the gaps.

Yes, I need to resand it and refinish it. Dang those close-up pictures!!

Too much wax, simply gently heat the wood and roll it over a piece of paper towel. Reheat if necessary.

Nice lidded boxes. Keep up the good work. That funnel opening could be made to hold a matching finial.

Yup, that is what I did after I dug out the biggest chunks.
Nice lidded boxes. Keep up the good work. That funnel opening could be made to hold a matching finial.

Unfortunately the hole is on the bottom so it would be pretty hard to balance the box on a finial! :biggrin:

I updated my lidded box pic. Here is the lidded box I made for our challenge. Made from Big Leaf Maple Burl. My first non pen / stopper. One of the many things I learned from this is I need practice using my gouges. This was a lot different than turning a pen.
