Hi all,

Andy got around to turning his cast "worthless wood" blanks from the demo. Now to decide what pens to make them into.

My blanks came out of the molds by the time I got home, and then by the next morning they were no longer sticky. But I haven't turned them yet.

The girls also cannot wait for us to make something out of theirs, but I need to find a pencil kit that isn't a "slimline", cause I'm not making pens for them yet....

Can't wait to cast something else. Abigail made a tote bag for my mom for Christmas, and I'm planning to wrap some tubes with the scraps and make her a matching pen (thanks for the suggestion Greg!)

:)

Make them a comfort pen and then buy a Cross pencil insert. You can get them in 7mm directly from Cross online. They only cost a few dollars.
Blanks look good.

Casting Demoe - Silicon Molds

Watching all of the casting being done in silicon molds had me curious. With a little research I thought I'd try making a homemade silicon mold. According to the instructions it should be dry enough to unmold in two days. With the current weather I'm thinking more like 4-5 days. I have $9.00 in silicon wrapped up in the deal and it can cast two blanks.

I couldn't find a way to upload the short movie of Greg's pinecone casting so I did a couple of snapshots of it.

Silicon Molds

Here's the result of the first attempt at making a silicon mold. It can use a bit of cleanup around the edges, but it looks fully functional.
