Patriotic 50 Cal.

This is my entry, the :usflag:"Patriotic 50 Cal." :usflag:since it is .50" I used that number for my plans. I segmented the bottom and top of the case .50" from the beveled edge. I turned the the blank down to size then cut a tenon on each end to fit inside of the brass. The blank is Red white and blue and is from PSI, it is pressed in then glued. Every thing is wet sanded to 1500 then MM through step 5 and plastic polished.

308Win pen - exploded view.

I call this one "Ignition".

Ignition1_x750.jpg

Ignition2_x750.jpg

Ignition3_x750.jpg

The nib and finial are a segmented 308 Winchester nickel-plated shellcase with a solid copper bullet. The blank is made from two pieces of acrylic rod (one blue, one red and white) and gunpowder encapsulated in a thick built-up CA coating. The clip extends from a slot cut in finial section. I used a fired (and dimpled) primer cup, which seemed asthetically appropriate this time.

This is sort of a "frankenkit" pen. The mechanism came from a cigar pen kit that I modified to take 8mm tubes. The parker-style refill extends with a twist of the bullet (which unscrews as well). Other parts came from a CSUSA click pen kit, a Perfect-Fit kit, and a slimline kit.

The design is meant to portray the interior of a rifle cartridge at the moment it is fired. The blue spark at the case head represents the jet of flame from the primer. The red and white flames of burning powder extend into the unignited portion. As you can see from the photos, the spark and flame patterns vary as they wrap around the pen. The specks in the black section are reflections off the embedded grains of gunpowder.

This was an interesting pen to make. I hope you like it.

Regards,
Eric

Don't go "Postal"

Well It pales in comparison to other pens already posted but I'm sure someone can take the idea and improve it so here it goes.

Federal .410 shotgun hull
slimline clip
nib section was from a sedona
The flag stamp was from a letter I received in the mail.

I hope no one goes "postal" over the idea.

Please someone take the idea and show me how it should have been done.

Again, it was a first draft. Feel free to use the idea and improve it.

Landon

270 WSM cartridges - Patriotic Swirl from Woodturningz - Gold Cigar.

Stars, Stripes, and Bullets

I made this pen using a copper slimline kit, Heavily modified slimline transmision, a brass .308. The box is made to model after a 20mm mortar round and the star was hand filed on both sides to accept the pen. The .308 shell has stars and USA engraved on it, it was then powder coated clear. The upper section is a Navy blue corian that has little grooves and ridges for the red and white paint. It was totally unneccessary but I did accidentally bleed whill making this pen, it just made me think of the men and women that gave thier life for my freedom.

A 30-30 with some basic segmenting. The cross came from Eugene (ElMostro). Deep Ocean Blue, Blood Red and Snow White from Exotic Blanks. We have our Grandsons staying with us this weekend. Jacob decided that it was his right after I brought it into the house.

30-06 Love My Country Pen

Pen is made from Hot, Glacier White and Cobalt Corian. This pen was made from used casings not a kit. The Corian colors were cut individually and glued together to form the stripes. Cobalt blue topped off the flag.

Here we go

This is a basic .308 with a copper tip and M1 clip. The blank is a red and white PR mix with a lot of pearlx in it. The Blue is a cut off some unknown blank. Both cut on lathe so it's straight. Also trying to still learn the new camera. Hopefully the angles of the pics will persuade the judges!!!!

Also if I get my RPG pen to somehow quit blowing up, I'll post it.

Toni & CaptG. Collaboration

Collaboration~Capt G. cartridge is a 30-06 Dragon is 100% Polymer Clay sculpted onto the tube. Both countries flags are red/white/blue... Thinking outside the box:biggrin:

This took me about 1 week to come up with the design, 1 week to make the final dragon, meaning there were several dragons sitting on the casing, and 2 days to make him. Took Gary 1 week to force me to post him.

Casing pen entry

Here is my little entry , well not so little. The pen is made with 3 different size casings. The top cap is a S & W 500 mag. It has been drilled for a clip made with polished stainless rods that has a 30.06 end on it ( 30.06 is the smallest casing used ). The body is made from a 338 using a jr gent style kit. It being a larger style pen I dont think anyone would want to post it but if they do, both end where the primer goes has been drilled and a small mangnet was glued in . It was made as a fountain pen and has a Heritage nib.

Casing Cigar

The Blank used on this one is PSI's Patriotic Swirl, I lost a lot of the RED but it still has some red pearl left in it. The bottom is made from .45 Colt ACP casings. The top is made from .410 shotgun shells. :)

My submission for the 2010 Casing Challenge.

I was hesitant on submitting this entry. After seeing Corian Kings pen, which is nice I didn't want to seem like it was a copy.

Granted after seeing some of the other submissions in general I was hesitant. :) Some very nice submissions so far.

The pen is made using Corian. The colors are Cobalt, Venaro White & Hot.

The Corian section of the pen is 4 inches long. The weight of this pen is actually comfortable, despite it being a long pen.

I want to thank Sylvanite (Eric) for the casing kit he sent me. It is a quality kit. I will look forward to getting more from him in the future.

I am excited to have posted this entry with it being my first challenge on here. Thanks for looking at my submission.

Larry

Here is my entry into the Casing Challenge.

It is a 7.62mm once fired shell with drilled out bullet nib and rifle clip. The Red/White blank is a combination of homebrewed resin and commercial resin laminated into a single blank. Before gluing, the epoxy was dyed red to produce some depth of colour throughout the red segments.

Made with all the Canadian Peace Keepers abroad in mind.

Jeff

Ok several firsts in this pen but it does not look too bad. I used layers of Bloodwood, Maple and Blue Dyed Maple, (from a piece I got from Constant) it is bloody hot here at 110 at 9am and humid so I kind of rushed it a little and did not get the tube centered so the colors are off in alignment but otherwise it is a nice looking pen. The kit I got as part of the $5.00 donation thanks to Eric (Sylvanite) it is the first one and I will be getting some more. I finished it in 8 coats of med ca, white diamond polish and assembly. Hope you all like it.

Simply Red, White and Blue

This is my submission for the patriotic cartridge contest. I know, it's simple.
I used a Madreperlato Blue from Exotic Blanks, a Red blank from Woodcraft, White from the a leftover white end of a Jeff Powell Dragon blank. Put it together on a Woodcraft cartridge kit. Sanded to 600 grit, MM to 12000, and HUT Plastic Polish X3. I hope everyone has a great week! As always, thank you for looking! :) Doc

Here is my submission. The write up on the photo explains it all. It was made from Corian: cobalt, hot, and glacier white. I used this the props in this photo as my display at my first and recent art show.

.410 Soft Air Cigar

This is my entry into the Casing Contest. The top half of the pen is a red Winchester Super X .410 cast in alumilite with a red white and blue center band. The bottom is made from blue and white Air Soft pellets cast in alumiliite, the inside of the blank has been painted silver to give the illusion of smoke. All of it has been wet sanded up to 1000 and then followed by plastic polish. Its mounted on a black chrome cigar kit.

280 Nickel plated/Presidential seal/Bicentennial Quarter

This is what I would call my Hybrid Rifle shell pen. It utilizes a 280 Winchester Nickel plated Rifle shell and a Remington 7mm (140 Gr bullet). I used a cigar twist mechanism and coupler and the chrome upper kit components from Berea Hardwoods twist rifle shell pen. I casted a label with the Presidential Seal and a Genuine Bicentennial Quarter in Polyresin. (1776-1976 is the mint date on the quarter).
Ink refill: Parker Gel

There is bound to be confusion from this.

DO NOT POST PICTURES OF ANY PENS FROM ANY CURRENT CONTESTS IN THIS THREAD!!!

This is an old thread that has nothing to do with anything currently happening.

In answer to your question Seamus, No one has expressed any interest in the contest since then. Perhaps I will throw it out there this year and see what people think. Normally happened around Independence Day.
