Hi Guys and Gals, Here are a few more pieces of buckeye burl to look over. This posting, Part 6 is only of buckeye burl, some unstabilized "other things we make" wood and a few stabilized and unstabilized pen blanks. I'm going to start making some of my posts shorter but maybe more of them. My Part 5, way back on page 4ish, has some good wood in it yet but might be too long to browse through quickly. Thanks to you guys that bought some of them. Hope the below pieces find nice homes. ; )
It's really hard to set prices as you all know, whether selling raw wood or pens. We want as much as we can get but we still want to sell 'em. I usually try to calculate how many pen blanks I think can be cut out of the big pieces and set prices accordingly. I usually use $2.50 or close to it for the buckeye blanks, but depending on quality of wood, sometimes more as knife handle guys pay lots of $$ for the premium stuff. I would appreciate your zip and contact info by PM if you buy any of them. That would speed up the process a bit. Thanks. Below are some stabilized Buckeye burl pen blanks. All are at least 5" long, most are 5 1/4 long x 3/4 square or maybe a little larger. It's hard to make 'em exact as I hand sand each one after receiving them from River Ridge Products. (Very nice folks who do an excellent job). The blanks come to me with sabilizing agent on them that needs to be sanded before you can see the grain. Sometimes I get a little overly zealous (or sleepy) and overdo the sanding, hence the exact dimensions on each blank may vary. I do my best to show the good/bad/and ugly in all my wood, you'll see it eventually anyway. I take dry and wet pics to show potential with finish. Disclaimer.........you know I gotta throw it in there. : ( Buckeye burl is known to have voids, bark inclusions, loose eyes, etc. These are not flaws but an expected condition of burl.......there. : ) SOLD Below, BPS8, Buckeye burl stabilized blanks, 3/4 x 3/4 x at least 5" long. $11.25 for all three. Below, BPS9, buckeye burl stabilized pen blanks, 3 pieces, 3/4 x 3/4 x 5, $11.25 for all three. SOLD Below, BP34, buckeye burl pen casting blanks, 11 pieces, 3/4 x 3/4 x 5 to 6" long. $9.00 Below, BP42 , Buckeye burl pen blanks. Not stabilized, 3/4 x 3/4 x at least 5" long. These blanks are all hand made and sanded to show grain. Dimensions may be off a little, most are over 3/4 but a few might be a little shy of the 3/4". I usually add a few half blanks to orders if there's any doubt while I'm packing them. Better too many than not enough. : ) $10.00 for all four. Below, BP44, Buckeye burl pen blanks. Below, BP46, Buckeye burl pen blanks. Below, BP47, Buckeye burl pen blanks. SOLD Below, B121, Buckeye burl box of cut-offs, edges, etc., all a by product of pen blanks so there will be lots of 3/4" dimensions. I've seen some about 1/8" thick x 5", probably the thinnest and they generally go up from there. Whole box weighs about 8 lbs., shipping cheapest available depending on where you live from 96049. $8.00 for the buckeye itself. Below, some larger buckeye blocks, not burl but spalted "trunk" wood. Some nice color, figure in others, no eyes, few voids, incluions, etc. Below, B127, measures 2 x 5 1/2 x 7". 10.00. Below, B128, measures 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 x 12 1/2". $10.00 Below, B129, measures 2 3/4 x 4 x 10 1/2". $10.00 Below, B130, measures 2 3/8 x 5 1/4 x 10". $12.50 Below, B131, measures 2 1/2 x 5 x 12". $10.00 Note one edge is soft...brown area near the 2" mark. The rest is pretty solid. Below, B133, measures 7/8 x 2 7/8 x 18". A really nice piece with some great wood. Pics show it pretty well. The only real flaw I see on this one is at the 10" mark, last pic. A small bark pocket that doesn't show on the other side. $20.00. SOLD Below, B134, buckeye small slab, measures 1 x 2 2/4 x 14" long. This piece is not entirely dry but at the one inch thickness, it wouldn't take long to dry especially if cut into pen blank size. $17.50 SOLD Below, B135, buckeye small slab, measures 1 x 2 3/4 x 13" long. This piece is not entirely dry but at the one inch thickness, it wouldn't take long to dry especially if cut into pen blank size. $15.00. FYI, this will bookmatch to B134 above. Below, B136. Buckeye burl spalted block, measures, 1 5/8 x 2 7/8 x 5 1/4". $12.00. Below, B137, Buckeye block with some natural edging. This is a great block, appears to be sound but you never can really tell until you get inside. "White out" marks show a couple hairline cracks. I debated with myself (and lost) about posting this one whole. There's a lot of value here if cut into either pen blanks or knife scales or handes but here it is. Measures 3" thick x 7 1/2 x 10ish. $40.00 Below, B126, Buckeye blocks, measuring 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 plus up to about 2 3/4.....they're all about the same but I've gotta have a little "wiggle room".... : ) Note these are not "burl" with eyes, etc. but more of the cleaner straighter grain wood from higher on the trunk. All have nice gray color. Twelve of em, $12.00 Guess that's about it for now....thanks for looking. Rocky/rockb BTW, remember the Zip and addie if you buy any of these. : ) Last edited by rockb; 01-20-2010 at 11:58 AM. Reason: closed "sold" listings |
