How I create a Bottle Opener a. I select a piece of stock (wood or resin) for the handle. A typical size is 1x1 by 4 inches long however I have used up to 7-10 inches long for a handle which is hung from a barbeque grill with an eye hook. b. Next I turn the stock between centers to the desired size and apply my finish. c. Then I use my disk sander and create a flat spot (about the size of a $.05 cent coin) on the end of the handle which will be used to drill the needed holes into. d. Next I clamp the handle (wrapped in a paper towel) and I drill 4 holes (using a 5/32" bit ) 1.5 inches deep which are in-line creating an oval hole . e. Last I put some CA glue into the hole and then insert the bottle opener head. f. Enjoy! How I create a Ice Cream Scooper a. Select a wood blank for the handle which is typically 1 inch square by 5 inches long. b. Mount the blank between centers. c. Turn the blank into the handle shape you desire. Keep in mind there is lots of room to be creative here. Pens might not look great with all kinds of funny grooves and shapes but these handles do. d. Using your favorite finish produce a high gloss on the handle. e. Using a 1/4” bit drill 2 holes (next to each other) 1 inch deep to create an oval shaped hole. f. Insert the Ice Cream Scooper head into the oval hole ensuring it is a tight flush fit. g. Glue the head into the handle using your favorite adhesive and let it dry. h. If desired take a chrome brad and tap it into the end of the handle. This brad allows you to easily hide the divot created while turning between centers. i. Now go grab a pint of Ben & Jerry’s “Cheri Garcia” and test it out. j. Enjoy! Last edited by clapiana; 07-18-2011 at 11:53 AM. |
