I came across a warehouse last year that had parts from an old bowling alley stored in it.
The building was being sold and the owner was selling of everything inside it.
The alley sections were maple with black strips in them for the lines.
I thought they were ebony but in fact it was laminated Ebonite.
I was able to swap the owner two pens and a promise to make her one from the alley wood for all the strips.
Got about 20 3/4" square strips about 36" long.
Here is what I turned from that stuff and a piece of the maple for her pen.
You got to look hard and the light needs to be just right to really see the lamination's but they look like growth rings in wood.
