I have enjoyed making wooden cutting boards. I primarily make them as gifts for family & friends, but I may begin to sell a few. I don't have a planer, so I used a belt sander to get the surface flat. And then use an orbital sander to smooth it.

For those who are interested, I created a tutorial:Make a Cutting Board

Thanks for looking.

Thank you for the tutorial. I added it to my home screen and plan on making a couple as Christmas gifts this year. May even do a couple for our own kitchen. The ones we have are just plain one color cheapos that we've had for 30 years plus.
Thanks again, Jeff

Without a planer? Wow!!! You like sanding a lot of more then I do....and the result is great!

Scott (sanding is the pits) B

I would love to have a planer someday. That would cut down on the sanding time. I knew that a lot of people may not have a planer, so I wanted to show an alternative way to do it. You can buy a Black & Decker portable belt sander for about $50.

If I were to start selling these, and making lots of them, I would want to invest in a planer.

Nice looking cutting board.

My buddy makes cutting boards of all kinds. He gave me some offcut scraps in return for a pen. Here are some pictures of the process and the pen I made, after some manipulation of a scrap piece. Along w/ the pouch my wife made. He was very pleased.
