I had a nice surprise this past weekend! I entered this Trilobite themed, turned, carved egg in the Project Challenge contest at the Woodworking Show.
I had turned and embellished this egg last summer. Last week, I made the "Shadow" base and got it done in time for the show.
The egg is maple with acrylic paints, the base is cherry with pyrography, black stain and brass.
Well, turns out, I won the People's Choice award! I didn't expect this win.
A fellow club member won the Educators Choice award for his bowl from a board!

Here is another pic showing the shadow base. The carving is resting on 5/64" brass rod supports which I mounted in a collet chuck to shape the ends and polish.
