Thought this bowl was going to be maple

Went rummaging through my friend's wood pile and my eye caught this nasty old piece of firewood. I thought it was maple, but, as it turns out it looks more like oak. Still, a "brand plucked from the fire" (Zechariah 3:2). Not too bad a piece.

Definitely oak....the rays of the wood in the 3rd pic give it away. What a gorgeous piece...and what a great job you did positioning it on the lathe to bring out the highlights!.
