This was a labor of love.
Around 25 hours went into creating this cane, over 8 hours just in reduction time, 6+ hours of it was reduced live on Facebook to get half of it reduced to around 1 inch thick, the other half was reduced off camera a few days later (was too worn out lol). It was almost a life sized skull and weighed around 6 lbs. I was able to reduce it down to a little over 1/2 an inch with very little distortion. Am so happy with the end result and was worth the hard work.
Made a few Sierra blanks to try it out. Love it

Amazing! I love seeing the creativity from cane to pen blanks... Something that most of us haven't pulled off. Like Mal said, it's hard to believe you can make something so large and roll it out to something that small and still keep the detail. No wonder most of us just buy the finished canes. You are very talented! Thanks for posting!

I enjoyed watching "some" of the videos. I've always been somewhat curious about how these things are made. It is a lot of work, but your results are amazing! (not just the skull canes, but all the canes you've made!)

Brilliant work!

It does take some practice to be able to get them from that size to small with out distortion it's also very tiring on the arms.
I have a full length flower cane tutorial on YouTube from start to finish, it's a pretty easy design for a beginner that involves a little more in depth design then just a solid color of clay, a little clay knowledge and tools are needed. (Picture of the cane made).

John, Thank you. It is a lot of work sometimes to get to a finished clay blank. Not a lot of people know the full depth that is needed to create the canes and sometimes there's so many hours in one design, especially very detailed ones like the sugar skull with the multiple blends and design elements. Creating the canes is the hard part, the blank creation to me is the relaxing side of it.
Most flower canes can take me around 4 hours from start to finish, but animal canes and my skulls have all been 12 to 28 hours to design and finish as most are a first time make for me.
