Turned this 11 1/2" x 4" spalted oak bowl. I love how the grain pops against the black spalting lines. Finished with multiple coats of butcher block conditioner.

As always - c & c welcomed and encouraged!

That is a beautiful bowl. The streaks/colors are great, and I also like the "rustic" look of the open grains.

Very nice.

Gorgeous piece!

But is it worth the annoyance of using a food safe finish, as in the BB oil requires semi regular refinishing, when the spalting (I would think) renders the piece unsafe for food? Wouldn't something more durable and 'prettier' be a better choice? You could probably still use another oil based finish over the BB.

Or maybe I'm wrong about the spalting.
