Since finals are keeping me from being home this Sunday, I felt the need to make something special. Curly cherry. 12" L x 6" W x 5" T. Dovetails are handcut, bookmatched lid, continuous grain flow around the body. Many layers of shellac to finish. The false poplar bottom pivots out by pressing down on the end. There are four little storage compartments underneath.
In hindsight, I should've cut the pins narrower to provide better evidence of them being handmade... these are just large enough for a router bit. I also failed to properly gauge the depth of the tenon and mortise connecting the handle to the lid, resulting in a slight gap between the handle and the top of the box. Great learning opportunity.
Suggestions for improvement welcome and appreciated!
