Finished up a fun project, after seeing this on another site, I had to give it a try. It's Maui's hook, made from glued up pieces of 2x4. Marc was kind enough to provide the pattern and I cut it out on the band saw, and shaped it by hand using a wood rasp since I do not have a side grinder like he used in the video. I also decided to wrap the handle with leather instead of using rope. The images were burned using a woodburning tool. The grandkids were very excited about it, so I am pleased with the results.

Nice work, the woodburning turned out great.

That tells you how many current movies I watch . Thought from the name it would be a Hawaiian fishing tool .
I'm with you. I was getting ready to google what a Maui Hook was used for... I was thinking along the lines of hooking a yellowfin to pull it into the boat.
