Dogwood, that is.
Here is my latest offspring... 14.5" Dogwood carved spoon finished with Mineral Oil.
This youngster has a mind of its own. Instead of standing true and proud, this guy decided to stray from the straight and narrow. The handle has bowed to one side since carving....seems as I carved material from the handle, it released some ingrown tension resulting in this curvature. There was a knot nearby and the grain in this area is the cause of the movement.
I could call this one a reject and toss aside but it is my kid so he is unique, special, and has a personality of his own.
This afternoon we are attending a Super Bowl party at a new neighbors house and this is a "Welcome to the 'hood" gift for them.

Great looking spoon. If I recall correctly, you haven't made a lot of these or been making them very long. This looks like it was done by a veteran, very nice.

Thanks Jay, I have been carving the spoons for about 16 months now...probably about 20+ to date. I just try to do my best.

As usual, Charlie is making me look bad. Some day, Charlie, I hope to half a quarter of your skill set. You are killing it. Great job.

Thanks Lance......you have advanced a lot in the short time you have been turning....keep turning and trying new techniques/turnings. If you can make it to the skill enhancement sessions, it will put you on the fast track...then just keep employing those learned skills to new pieces.

scraping the bowl better for a right handed person.
I use my right index finger for cake batter and icing. Spoon misses too much. Back to the topic, those are nice and will get brave and try some kitchen utensils.
