It was in someones yard (North Phoenix area) and was cut down when it started to die. I purchased the crotch for $20 and the other half was a platter.

Friction polish!!! I bet that was fun with a spinning bowl......................especially out around the edges!

That is when you attach a big felt pad to your 3" sander and polish with that. Much easier than while on the lathe.

Thanks Scott and that was what I was attempting to do, I made a platter out of the other half several months ago and lost so much of the grain and heart wood. I wanted to save as much as possible.
Approx 11" long by 7" wide at tbe narrow end and 10" at the wide end (where the limbs branch out). The bowl is 4" in diam.
