Here is my first attempt at a bowl type turning. I am not sure what you would call it due to the small size. It measures about 1 3/4" tall x 2 3/4" diameter. It came from a piece of a spalted maple log section that I picked up in Arkansas while I was home at Christmas. So far I have only applied BLO, as I am not sure yet as to what finish I will use. For some reason the pics seem to appear orange. The wood is a little lighter though.

Jeremy,
For a first attempt you did a great job ! In my opinion it looks like this "bowl" as need for a nice lid. If I had to do it, I'll choice a nice dark wood for it. BTW if you like a finish that not color the spalted wood, give a try with Chestnut Lemon oil, absolutly no change of color as BLO produce.
