Hello and Happy New Year from here. This year I wanted
to make some bottle stoppers for Christmas gifts, so I
decided to give it a try. I was able to complete five before
we went on vacation, see below. From left to right they
were made from California Redwood, Mahogany, Mesquite,
Purple Heart, and Cherry. Judging from the reaction, everyone
really seemed to like them.
After we got back, I started making some more for the people
I had missed. In the 2nd picture below is another Cherry and a
laminated blank from Woodcraft that I turned this past weekend.
The finish for all was 2 coats of shellac followed by a coat of wax.
The bottle stopper hardware is the silicone version available
at Woodcraft. Next I'm going to try the stainless steel hardware
from Ruth Niles, but I was short of time and used what was
available locally for these.
Thanks to everyone who has posted tips and videos on how to
turn bottle stoppers, I learned a lot from that.
