As with some of my turnings, there is a story to go with it!
A couple years ago, turner Bob Rosand was in our neck of the woods and did a one day workshop which I attended. He had us do several of his small turnings. One was a ring holder which is shaped like a genie bottle which I turned from maple but never added any finish nor finial.
This summer, Jacques Vesery came to do a workshop which Wifey and I signed up for. This one was all about embellishment.....bring your own pre-turned items to embellish. One of the items was this ring holder. We were shown how to make a spiral brand for pyrography from some nichrome wire.....so I burnt the ring holder in a branding fashion with the spiral brand and a ball tip. Next came the coloring. This takes longer than the burning.
After the workshop, I made the finial from cherry and colored it. Here are some pics. Note: The last pic was taken by our club photographer, Paul Muirhead.
