The Richmond Woodturners Club will be demoing at an event called Makersfest being held at the Science Museum tomorrow. I am doing one of the shifts and did this practice piece for my demo. I will not be able to finish it in the allotted time but hope to do turn everything but the finials. think that I need to flare it out more, recess the top more, and make the finials more elegant on the next one.

Congrats on the demo! How did it go?

I do agree with your suggestions on the piece. Also, did you add a rabbet for the lid to seat?
Generally one's first piece is a starting point for future refinements in shape, form and design.

I am still not completely happy with shape after my second attempt. I think it is improving but haven't hit the sweet spot.
