I have a coat of walnut oil on this spalted walnut vase and am debating where to go with finish- gloss, satin or matte. I am kind of digging the matte look. Thoughts?

Cody, I would stay away from the gloss as it will add reflections. This wood is too pretty cover. My preference is to let the Walnut oil dry for a week or two and then lightly buff with a clean wheel....no wax, no nothing, it should buff easily to a light soft sheen.

Do you plan on keeping it, gifting it, or trying to sell it?

Every turner I know who tries to make a living at it has told me "gloss sells", but if this is for your own satisfaction then the choice is yours.

Someone else said that a noted Woodturner once said that he would buy matte and sell gloss. I don't know what I am going to do with it, I am a little in love with it right now.

It will be a beautiful piece however you decide. You can always go with more gloss and if you don't like it knock it down to a matte finish again. You won't know unless you try.
