Our 6th anniversary is Monday, made my wife these candle holders. The wood was cutoffs from the newel posts of the staircase from the home we bought/remodeled/moved into recently.

Thanks folks!

Larry I think the would work peppermills, slightly over 3", I drilled out the top with a 3" forstner. It is basically segmented oak strips inside so the glue joints could leave some chances open for damage while drilling and turning. I was pretty aggressive on these and had some chip out but wanted them to look distressed so some chip out was good with me.
