Here's a few pics of some pine cones I've been experimenting with over the last few weeks. While I was at the Wadsworth conference for Curtis's lecture on stabilizing there was a pine cone bottle stopper blank in my gift bag. Bottle stoppers are not something I turn, so I set it on my shelf. A few weeks later I got the idea to cut it diagonally along the length to allow me to get more than one Wall Street pen kit from the blank (I hate wasting material). After cutting, drilling and tubing it I put one on my lathe, but cutting it this way had an unforseen effect on the pen. Once it was turned the center of the cone looked like a spine going up the body of the pen.

The pictures below are of blanks, and pens I've made since then.

I agree with Charlie ... it looks cool ! . Can you please show us a pen made from one of those blanks ?

It seems you have skillfully removed all bubbles ... great job of casting !
