I was sent some pine cones for casting. These are a lot of fun. They also don't seem to have any bubbles in the interior as far as I can tell.

Did you do these under pressure? Or in a vac? Did you vibrate or use an ultrasonic cleaner?

I haven't cast anything yet but have been reading the articles and threads ... now my head is spinning :biggrin:

I hope you will post a photo and follow up after you have turned them. :)

These were made with Alumilite and brought up to 60 pounds of pressur in my pressure pot. No vacuum, vibration of cleaner. I like to keep things simple. I use mica powders for color and add it to the resin, mix it real good, add in the B or hardener and mix it even more. I then pour some into the bottom of the mold, place in the pine cone and pour the rest of the resin on top.

Here's a link to the thread with the pens I completed today with the blanks.

Eric, those look great! I really like the colors you mixed with them. The green and red really jump out like a dragon skin. Nice work!

Eric, These are awesome!! I've been turning plain old Georgia pine cones using CA to stabilize and finish for some time but as JohnU says, the colors really jump out on these. Great pens.
